The Book of Kells is universally regarded by calligraphers as the greatest work of calligraphy of all time. It was created circa 800 A.D., and in 1200 years, has never been equalled. The scribes and illuminators that created it were so modest that they didn't even record their names. Below are some links that provide some good examples of this stunning work. Professor Tolkien not only gave us some magnificent literature that is regarded as a classic to this day, he also developed whole languages and scripts. Below are some web sites that have examples of elvish calligraphy in the script that Tolkien developed. Also, see our own calligraphy gallery. Daniel Reeve did all of the elvish calligraphy for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies.
